1. Begin with a list of twenty orthographically consistent real words, with a few nonwords to ensure phonological processing. 2. Have students identify the vowel and say the sound before he reads the word (especially for our young readers or those with weak decoding skills). 3. Track responses for: reads the word correctly, self-corrections) 4. Miscall for Monitoring: Occasionally take a turn decoding a word to facilitate the monitoring process. The teacher miscalls the word and asks student to judge right or wrong. Teacher has the student correct and verbalize the error. The teacher has the student red the word accurately. 5. Do symbol imagery exercises for some of the words. 6. Diagnose the student's processing skills for speed and accuracy, pace of student created symbol imagery, types of errors and self-corrections. OG Card Deck is a very useful app that can be added to your iPhone or iPad. It works nicely with the Kids LIPS program. It is a speech and language tool that provides intentional practice of English phonemes and graphemes, which are letters that produce a specific sound. Kids can access a list of consonants, single vowels, consonant digraphs, vowel teams, R-controlled vowels, short vowels, vowel-consonant-e combinations, and suffixes to reinforce spelling and word construction rules. OG Card Deck provides support for kids who have difficulty spelling or effectively constructing words when writing. There's no assessment or data component of the platform: It's strictly designed as practice as a multisensory approach to literacy.
